The Era of the ‘New Media Baron’ is Born at Camelot Castle

John Mappin has firmly established himself as a doyen of the independent media.

He is arguably the pioneer of positive news reporting.

This is a courageous departure from the traditional preoccupation of the media with bad news and the slanting of information as a means of manipulating opinion, itself a clever form of population control.

John Mappin is committed to using the media as a tool to improve understanding, communication and peace on the premise that people do not need to be slyly controlled but liberated instead, by giving them information they can actually use.

He holds the view that society and survival are in grave danger when false reporting or incorrect data are used to justify an unsound government agendum - or in fact the agendum of some corporate, psychiatric or other vested interest that influences government policy for its own advantage.

The Media then has a duty to report the truth and becomes a dangerous weapon when it operates at the behest of vested interests.

Positive reporting is a part of that duty to report the truth, for the simple reason that positive events are part of the human scene - and in fact predominate.

The tone of information transmitted to people as fact affects for good or bad the tone of the culture and one sure way to render it dispirited, fearful and hopeless is to feed it a relentless diet of bad news.

Slanting news in favor of the bad actually distorts the view of human beings about themselves, their societies and indeed the human race. Slanting it in favor of particular vested interests and keeping the full gamut of information out of view of the public is a terrible disservice to the population. Ethical reporting is about transmitting a fact without recourse to negative spin.
And these are issues that still concern us all.

The arrival then of a new breed of media baron, men who take seriously the responsibilities of their position for making a constructive contribution to the society to which they belong, is to be welcomed.

John Mappin is also well know for his patronage of the arts and his innovative cultural project based at Camelot Castle, the remarkbly restored Cornish hotel that he owns and which stands in "King Arthur" country at Tintagel.

Camelot Castle Hotel is now an international focal point for members of the celebrity and media worlds. In fact, in the best Arthurian tradition, Camelot has become a global Round Table where decisions are made.

Of Camelot, resident artist, the renowned Ted Stourton said, "John Mappin and his wife Irina contribute a huge amount to Cornwall. They offer their home as a base for debate about issues concerning local and national media."

Nicolas Cage, Kate Winslet, Buzz Aldrin, Donald Pleasence, the Emir of Quatar, key business leaders, politicians and even a Russian Oil Orlich, have all enjoyed visits and talked into the small hours at Camelot Castle.

Camelot Hotel has even featured in the movies, and some time ago, was used as the set for a big budget adaptation of Bram Stoker's ‘Dracula'.

Some years later, John Mappin worked on a newspaper, which, at the time, was one of the very few in this country to make a brave stand against the pressured political cries for an invasion of Afghanistan.

Under Tony Blair, most major newspapers and indeed old school ‘press barons' toed the line and printed the lie. Now look at what has resulted!
